Hero SKU

A hero SKU is the single product (or occasionally a small product family) that a beauty brand leads with across marketing, retail ranging, and new stockist conversations. It is the product most associated with the brand in a consumer's mind, the one that drives the most first-time purchases, and the one that carries the highest awareness relative to everything else in the range.

Sell-Through

Sell-through is the percentage of a product that has been sold by a retailer compared to the total quantity they received or stocked. It is calculated by dividing units sold by units received and expressing that as a percentage. A sell-through rate of 80 percent or above is generally considered strong in beauty retail; below 60 percent raises flags.

Retail Readiness

Retail readiness describes how prepared a beauty brand is to perform in a retail environment across product, operations, marketing, and commercial terms. A retail-ready brand has reliable stock, trained staff support, a consumer marketing plan, clean sell-through data from existing stockists, and the operational capacity to fulfil orders consistently at the retailer's required scale.

UGC vs Branded Content

UGC (user-generated content) is content created by real customers or creators that features your product in an authentic, unscripted way. Branded content is produced by your team or a professional creative partner with intentional direction, styling, and messaging. In beauty, both are essential - they just do different jobs in the consumer journey.

Creator Whitelisting

Creator whitelisting (also called allowlisting) is the process of a content creator granting a brand advertising access to their social media account. This allows the brand to run paid ads that appear to come from the creator's profile rather than the brand's own account - preserving the authentic feel of the creator's content while applying professional ad targeting and budget behind it.

Replenishment Flows

Replenishment flows are automated marketing sequences - usually email, SMS, or a combination - timed to reach a customer just before they are likely to run out of a product they have already purchased. In beauty, where products have a predictable consumption rate, replenishment flows are one of the highest-return automations a brand can build because they target buyers at maximum intent without requiring any additional advertising spend.

Beauty Content Ops

Beauty content ops (short for content operations) refers to the systems, workflows, and processes that sit behind a brand's content production. It encompasses everything from how briefs are written and distributed, to how assets are stored and retrieved, to how approvals are managed and how content is repurposed across channels. Strong content ops is what separates brands that produce content efficiently from those that reinvent the wheel every time.

Post-Purchase Flows

Post-purchase flows are automated email and SMS sequences triggered when a customer completes a purchase. They serve multiple functions: confirming the order and managing expectations, onboarding the customer to the product (especially important in skincare), encouraging UGC and reviews, and beginning the relationship journey that eventually leads to a second and third purchase.

Seasonal Launch Planning

Seasonal launch planning is the process of mapping a beauty brand's product launches, campaign activity, retail activations, and content production against the commercial calendar - key retail seasons, gifting windows, awareness moments, and consumer behaviour shifts through the year. It is distinct from general campaign planning in that it requires aligning internal teams, retail partners, and creator partners around the same timeline, usually months in advance.

A beauty founder reporting stack is the curated set of metrics, dashboards, and reporting cadences a brand uses to understand business performance and make decisions.
